If you have ever tried to find a new church
home, then you know the experience can be long (at very best) and like
banging your head against a wall (at very worst). It is a little
bit like dating. A lot of time, knowledge, and care go a long
way; it is a commitment not to be entered into lightly. In my
experience, it is difficult to simply find a comprehensive list of
local churches, never mind any information on what they are actually
like.

I once found myself in the back row of a local
sanctuary next to a confused couple. A visitor myself, I easily
identified them as the same. After I introduced myself, they
said it was their first visit and quickly commented on how hard it is
to find a church. In fact, they revealed, they were attending a
second service down the road that same day. "After all, you
only get one day a week to make this decision," he said.
"True," I agreed, "it takes a lot of time to settle on
a church." |
So I guess I shouldn't have been that surprised
when barely two minutes into the sermon, this couple excused
themselves from my row and disappeared. Upward and onward!
On to the next! Everyone has their own criteria when choosing a
church to become a part of. For me, however, the sermon plays an
important part.
My desire for this website is two-fold:
(1) That our
comprehensive directory of
Portland-area churches will help you clarify your options.
(2) That by browsing users' comments and adding
your own, you will be able to narrow down your choices easily and
quickly (and you will not have to skip the sermon!).

and other's reviews will save you time and frustration. Browse
our site often, comment on communities you have attended, and pass
